#1 The Story of the 4 Christmas Trees

The routine around here is to pick out a Christmas tree at Thanksgiving and then cut it just before the "women" get together to bake all of the Christmas goodies. This year was a little different as we had seen a "good" tree in September so when I asked Ray to go and cut the tree I was dismayed to come home and find the tree above on the porch in the tree stand. She, "You've got to be kidding me!!!" He, "What's wrong with it? I think it is fine and I'm not cutting another one."

The next day the "women" arrived and we left to go to a Christmas sale. On our return, the "men" had cut down the second tree. The women declared, "I don't think so!!!!" At this point I decided the only solution was to buy a tree. The men went off to get pizza for lunch and on their return they announced that they had purchased a tree in Burk's Falls. Where you may ask? At the fancy nursery. How much you may ask? $50. She, "You paid what for a tree????" He, "That's it. There is no way I am taking it back. That's the tree we are going to have this year." Oh, I don't think so. While the men had been out hunting and gathering pizza and a Christmas tree, I had been on the phone with the local Royston Road Christmas tree man. He sold trees for $15. What a deal!!!!

After lunch we headed out with the tied up tree from the nursery that you couldn't even tell if it was great or not to take it back. Let me be gentle, she was not impressed and as I told her I was returning it she declared, "You are going to return MY tree?" That settled we wound our way around Pegg's Mountain, hard to explain to the nine year old how this hump became named a mountain and finally found Royston Road and the man with the trees and what amazing trees they are!!!! He had every shape, colour and size you could imagine. All for $15 each!!!! Such a deal we should have bought more.

Here is our gorgeous tree!!! The grandbabies now 10 and 9 did a great job on the decorating and I only have a table top of more decorations to add. Next year, due to the 4 feet of snow we had last week, we are planning on going south at the beginning of November. I can't imagine not doing all of these Christmasy things but I have a year to work my head around that.

This winter will find us in Titusville, Florida. You can see our new home at www.titusvillefl.com and if you would like to come for a visit, come!!! I intend on blogging every Monday. As always, I can't imagine now what I will have to say but then life happens and it usually gets interesting. Ray will golf. I have volunteered at about 10 places but have only heard back from one so when I get there I will have to make something happen. There is a prison in the area and they were looking for people to teach reading. A veterans group were looking for help and a soup kitchen were looking for cooks. All sound like great opportunities and we will have to wait and see what happens. Stay tuned!!!!
